About Kraken Scuba
Erik and Julia
After serving for 20 years in the Marine Corps Erik wanted to combine his passion for teaching and leading with his love of scuba diving. He started diving in 2004 and became an instructor in 2017. He worked in North Carolina prior to coming to Mexico. While here in Playa Erik became a cave diver and absolutely loves diving in and exploring the caves in the region.
Julia is the heart of Kraken Scuba. Her passion for helping people has led her to careers in massage therapy, home healthcare, and hospitality. Her passion is making sure that your time in Playa Del Carmen, not just your diving, is the vacation that you were hoping for. Most of your initial contact with us will be with Julia, and we are sure that you will come to love her, just like we do.
Our History
Originally opened as Dive Shop Mexico in 2004, Erik and Julia assumed control of the shop in the middle of 2019. Working hard to stay open during and after the pandemic response in 2020, the shop underwent some changes in 2021 and unfortunately had to close temporarily in 2022. In a new location, and operating differently due to the lack of a walk-in facility, Dive Shop Mexico was reopened in late 2023 as Kraken Scuba.

At Kraken Scuba, we are dedicated to providing the best scuba diving experience to our customers. Our mission is to make sure that our divers feel safe and comfortable while exploring the underwater world. We do this by teaching standards based courses, ensuring that all of our equipment is properly maintained, and by taking you on dives that are appropriate for your skills and experience levels.
